Visually Defining Sustainable Food - Industry Photography and Branding

SUSTAIN Magazine, seeks to extend its focus to sustainability across the entire food supply chain. This project involves establishing a set of brand guidelines for photography that align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs). Students will immerse themselves in understanding the UN SDGs and how they should be represented in photography to inspire others to adopt sustainable practices throughout the food industry. The project aims to visually convey the importance of sustainability in agriculture, food service, retail, and beyond. Students are encouraged to look beyond the obvious SDGs that relate to food. There isn't a single SDG that doesn't apply to this sector - we challenge the students to apply a broad lens to this project.

MBA and Business Program Students - Sustainability for today's Social Enterprise

The Great Resignation has led to a greater willingness to leave traditional jobs for careers that offer greater personal fulfillment. This, in turn, has created a more competitive job market for recent graduates and soon-to-be graduates, who are seeking careers that align with their values and offer a sense of purpose. Social enterprises are organizations that aim to generate both social and financial impact. This can include for-profit companies with a social mission, nonprofits that generate revenue through business activities, and hybrid models that combine elements of both. Additionally, social enterprises often offer opportunities to work on innovative and impactful projects, as well as opportunities to grow and develop professionally. This project aims to leverage student learnings, to provide greater resource stability and sustainability for mission-driven organizations, and for SUSTAIN Magazine as a small media social enterprise with a desire to effect change.

Website Migration Project

We would like a replicate our current website to a replicated version that's built on Elementor for our organization. We would like to work with students to develop a new website for us. Students should be prepared to: Use the existing design to create a replica, but fully using "blocks" with Elementor or a similar WYSIWYG plugin for WordPress. Build a fully-functioning website, and migrate all content and copy. Provide and relevant documentation on updating and maintaining the site.

Using Notion as a tool to best support remote workforces

We'd like to use Notion.so to build a framework within our organization that will help to support the transfer of project information among our remote team members. Students will be asked to select ONE of the following challenges and to create it using the advanced features of Notion.so. OPTION ONE: Build a space for project management, processes and workflow to support a digital publishing company, with a cyclical schedule that supports content creation --> publication design --> release and promotion --> distribution/circulation/tracking. OPTION TWO: Build a portal that will provide extended support to the more contextual side of our Riipen projects. This will include a project management dashboard and briefing documents for the various projects we administer within the platform. OPTION THREE: Build a portal to manage both team members and independent contractors including the management of workflows between these individuals, including deadlines, and billables, etc.

Can Canada's Foodservice Sector Meet Our Nation's Commitment to the UN SDGs?

SUSTAIN Magazine has established itself as a strong voice for sustainable processes and practices within the food and beverage supply chain - from agriculture to retail to restaurants. SUSTAIN has applied for a grant from the Canadian Periodicals Fund to strategically pivot to a media organization focused on driving awareness in the area of the UNs Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). https://sdgs.un.org/goals#goals Governments, NGOs and corporate citizenship all have a critical role to play in Canada, and around the globe. We would love for the students to develop a report on how Canada's agriculture, food and beverage production, and foodservice sectors are in a position to have impact on the UN's 17 SDGs. This is a holistic view of sustainability and would ask the student to develop narratives and key messages regarding industry impacts and how these can be mitigated in both the short and long term.

Strategic Pivot - SUSTAIN Magazine

SUSTAIN Magazine has established itself as a strong voice for sustainable processes and practices within the food and beverage supply chain - from agriculture to retail to restaurants. The pandemic had a tremendous impact on these industries, but also impacted our publication and its ability to generate revenue as a result. SUSTAIN wishes to bring these goals to life through our publication, but also through training & education, thought leadership and planned industry events. We would love for the students to develop a plan for our publication and action steps in order to achieve these outcomes.
