Project detailsOur project is to facilitate a smooth transition for a new client from Fast Company to the Athennian software platform. The role of the student(s) will be to review the accuracy of data migrated and make any necessary changes to the data in Athennian. This project will allow students to gain a comprehensive understanding of legal entities, including digital minute books and the databases that create them. There will be a portion of entering fresh data if there are complex share transactions or a history of corporate changes (amendments, continuances, amalgamations). Training and support will be provided from experienced paralegals and law clerks. This project can be completed in a fully remote capacity. GoalsThe goal of this project is to ensure that data is accurately recorded in Athennian for client's use to digitally manage legal entities in the cloud. Additionally, we want to teach students how a modern law firm can manage entities and complete corporate legal work. Time permitting, other real-world training on corporate law could be completed on workflows that paralegals and law clerks execute on a daily basis.

Corporate Services Legal Assistant

DetailsMinit Inc., a division of Athennian, supports customers by providing paralegal assistance using the Athennian application. This is a great opportunity for students to experience the next era of corporate legal services by supporting law firms and legal teams in using an innovative corporate entity management platform.Students will be supported in:Assisting Athennian users in learning how to leverage the Athennian application to be more efficient and successful.Responding to user support requests with strategic solutions.Preparing documents relating to incorporation, organization, amendments, reorganizations, continuances, and amalgamations.Preparing and arranging for filing of extra-provincial registrations and updating documents.Preparing documents related to share transactions including the issuance of share certificates, and updating registers.Conducting minute book reviews and preparing necessary documents to bring minute books up-to-date.Students with the following characteristics will thrive:Strong attention to detail while switching between tasks quicklyEnjoys learning new technology and teaching others on best practices

Strategic AI & Machine Learning Application

DetailsAthennian is a growing tech start-up which has a cloud platform for legal entity management. We would like to collaborate with students to strategically apply AI and machine learning methodologies to data migration. This is a great learning opportunity to solve a real-world problem and will allow our company to onboard new customers more efficiently.Athennian receives unstructured data related to various legal entities from different customer sources. This data needs to be extracted and converted into a structured csv format for compatibility with our in-house software.Students should be prepared to:Apply machine learning methodologies to identify relevant data from various PDF and Word documents.Automate the process for extracting relevant data and mapping it into a structured data format.Design processes and test cases to ensure improvement in the accuracy of the tool over time.Athennian has over 250 variables that may be identified for extraction, of various data types including names, dates, addresses, numbers, and string text. There is meta-data for the documents that can impact the ability to detect the structure of the data, including the type of document being interpreted and the legal entity type the document belongs to.
