Students in the Fire Inspection and Fire Safety Education program have a foundation in fire science and fire mathematics, who study a comprehensive range of relevant codes and legislation, such as the Ontario Fire Code, Fire Protection and Prevention Act, the Ontario Building Code and the Building Code Act.

Students are looking for mentorship opportunities to expose them to a variety of fire service environments. Students in this program require 80 hours of mentorship to complete their requirements to graduate from the program.

Due to current COVID restrictions, students will complete these placements virtually.

Students can start placements as early as February 1st, 2021.

Project Examples

Projects might include but are not limited to:

  • Reviewing of Inspection Orders and having the students study critiqued
  • Case studies to work on and dialogue their solutions with the fire service
  • Review Fire Safety Plans
  • Public Education programs – evaluations, creation
  • Risk Assessments and Simplified Risk Plans – review, critique, update etc.
  • Fire-related research
Companies must answer the following questions to submit a match request to this experience:

Connecting with the Program Coordinator (Frank Donati) to initiate the placement and confirm the scope is an appropriate fit for the course.

Placement hours will be used for their requirements for successful graduation

Providing a dedicated contact who will act as the student's primary supervisor over the duration of the virtual placement. A secondary contact should be provided as a backup. Students will interact virtually with their primary contact on a daily basis, or as needed.
