Looking to elevate your organization, and bring it to the next level? Bring on students from University Canada West to be your student-consultants, in a project-based experience. Students will work on one main project over the course of the semester, connecting with you as needed with virtual communication tools.

Students in this program wish to understand contemporary organizations, their work culture and the role of HR within the Canadian workplace. Taking an applied approach students create and design strategies, policies, procedures, systems, and structures, required to successfully operate in a business context. Students also critically examine the key OBHR tools considered as set of business “best practices” to support and advise managers/leaders, employees to be successful in the Canadian work environment.

Deliverables are negotiable, and will seek to align the needs of the students and the organization.

Some final project deliverables might include:

  1. A 10-15 minute presentation on key findings and recommendations
  2. A detailed report including their research, analysis, insights and recommendations

Project Examples

Students in groups of 3-5 will work with your company to identify your needs and provide actionable recommendations, based on their in-depth research and analysis.

Project examples that students can complete may include, but are not limited to:

  • Analyzing and performing the assessments (TRI matrix) to evaluate individual personality - perception, emotions, values, attitudes - emotional intelligence, and leadership style.
  • Critiquing and comparing organizational culture, structure, change, team dynamics and communication of leading organizations for growth and sustainability.
  • Integrating OB and HRM industry-specific best practices to develop/ design organizational level policies and recommendations.
  • Exploring and critically examining selection and recruitment strategies of the Canadian employers and the underlying requirements pertaining to equal employment opportunity in the process.
  • Creating a career development plan as part of career readiness that includes strategic Canadian HR policies and practices.
Companies must answer the following questions to submit a match request to this experience:

Be available for a quick phone call with the instructor to initiate your relationship and confirm your scope is an appropriate fit for the course.

Provide relevant information/data as needed for the project.

Provide an opportunity for students to present their work and receive feedback.

Provide a dedicated contact who is available to answer periodic emails or phone calls over the duration of the project to address students' questions.

Be available for at least 2 follow-up meetings with the students to monitor progress, clarify doubts, and answer questions.
