The Great Resignation has led to a greater willingness to leave traditional jobs for careers that offer greater personal fulfillment. This, in turn, has created a more competitive job market for recent graduates and soon-to-be graduates, who are seeking careers that align with their values and offer a sense of purpose.

The nonprofit, charitable, and NGO (non-governmental organization) sector is one that has traditionally been attractive to individuals seeking purpose and fulfillment in their careers. The sector is characterized by a mission-driven culture and a focus on making a positive impact on society, which aligns well with the values and goals of many people looking for meaningful work.

Careers in the nonprofit sector can also be challenging, as many organizations operate on limited budgets and have limited resources.

This project aims to leverage student learnings, to provide greater resource stability and sustainability for mission-driven organizations, like trade associations.

Deliverables

Students may choose from one of the following business challenges, or may devise a business challenge of their own.

  1. Conduct a market analysis to identify new revenue opportunities for a trade association. Analyze trends and competition in the industry and propose new service offerings such as training, consulting, or events to increase revenue.
  2. Examine the potential for a trade association to generate revenue through partnerships and sponsorships. Research potential corporate partners and sponsors and develop a proposal for how the association can create mutually beneficial relationships.
  3. Investigate the feasibility of expanding a trade association's services to international members. Research the potential demand and barriers to entry for the association's services in different countries, and propose a plan for expanding the association's reach and revenue.
Mentorship

We are only too happy to provide:

  • A briefing document along with a facilitated overview via teleconference of the important themes and needs for the project
  • A single point of contact (POC) assigned to your course and students, with a team of experts available for questions
  • Provide attribution for the project to the students and the school for its involvement via LinkedIn and on our website.
  • Highlight student' work on the project to organization members, subscribers and audiences

*For those running courses outside of Canada*, we'll provide guidance and direction for the students to better understand the Canadian business (and geographical) landscape, along with openly available sources of data to be used in making their assessments.

An agile approach has been taken and we are now looking to redefine how we can best start and grow to support the industry. It is critically important to us to provide real and lasting value to our members.

Projects that are taken on by students and courses in the Riipen platform will be instrumental in our ability to build capacity to deliver that value.
To date, the work of the Food Trucks Association of Canada has been led by a volunteer Executive Director who is a passionate advocate in this space, and has leveraged a 75% student body of employees made available through various employment subsidies. It is a key part of our mandate to support student learning.

The NAICS code for the Food Trucks is 7223 and other code subsets.
