The primary goal of this project is to create comprehensive guidance tools and educational content aimed at helping food truck operators understand the ins and outs of insurance coverage. This should also include content that highlights the risks of being underinsured.


To accomplish this, we believe you should focus on:

  • Conducting customer interviews to understand purchase decisions and needs.
  • Defining customer segments that we could target.
  • Brainstorming potential product ideas.
  • Developing marketing messaging and sales strategy for the new product.


We hope this new product will increase revenue and grow our customer lifetime value.

Students will gain an in-depth understanding of the complexities of insurance in a niche industry.

Food truck operators will receive tools and information aimed at improving their insurance coverage and understanding the risks of underinsurance.We want you to help us develop a new product that will appeal to our target customer, which we can offer as an up-sell to our existing product(s).

Deliverables

Tasks Learners Need to Complete


1. Conduct in-depth research on the types of insurance coverage essential for food truck operators and other mobile food vendor types including caterers.

2. Develop an interactive tool or checklist that assists operators in evaluating each business type's insurance needs.

3. Collaborate with the insurance industry to create educational content, such as articles or infographics, that delve into the risks and repercussions of being underinsured.

4. Test these resources with food truck operators for feedback.

5. Refine and finalize the toolkit based on the feedback received.


Skills or Technologies Required

- Interest in developing knowledge of insurance principles and industry standards

- Research and data analysis skills

- Content creation and design abilities (Helpful)

- Financial risk assessment

A written report explaining how the new product or service will complement our existing offering and increase our customer lifetime value.

A 5-minute product pitch presentation.

Mentorship

-Regular check-in meetings with the team to ensure students are comfortable with tasks and have the necessary resources or information to succeed.

-Project Lead/Supervisor will be available for contact on weekdays and will be able to answer any questions and clarify any issue, additionally options will be provided for additional one-on-one meetings if students require it.

-Access to predefined public forums and any other relevant resources necessary for completing the project.

-Clear communication channels for students to raise any concerns or ask questions throughout the project.

-FTAC will offer confidential interviews with industry experts in insurance.

Access to non-public industry reports and data may be provided.

The Food Trucks Association of Canada (FTAC) is a national, nonprofit organization which was first registered in Canada in the late summer of 2020, in the earlier period of onset of the pandemic.

An agile approach has been taken and we are now looking to redefine how we can best start and grow to support the industry. It is critically important to us to provide real and lasting value to our members.

Projects that are taken on by students and courses in the Riipen platform will be instrumental in our ability to build capacity to deliver that value.
To date, the work of the Food Trucks Association of Canada has been led by a volunteer Executive Director who is a passionate advocate in this space, and has leveraged a 75% student body of employees made available through various employment subsidies. It is a key part of our mandate to support student learning.
